The Shashibo Crown — the first shape out of the box
Every Shashibo story starts here. One corner opens, the box lifts its lid, and you are holding a Crown — the first stop on the official beginner route.

Why the Crown comes first
The official "Create your first shapes" sheet opens with a single move: open one corner and you have a Crown. There is no twisting, no counting pieces — just one corner of the cube swinging open while the other pieces hold together on their magnets. It is the gentlest way to learn how a Shashibo wants to move.
Making the Crown
- Hold the closed cube loosely in both hands, outer pattern facing you.
- Look for an opening corner. A Shashibo can only be opened on 2 of its 8 corners, so test them one at a time.
- When a corner gives a little, gently pull it open like a pistachio shell.
- Let the pieces settle until you feel the magnets connect — that click means the Crown is done.
What you should be holding
The cube's tidy outer design breaks open at one corner, and some of the inner faces show for the first time. One corner is now open and the opposite one stays closed — remember that closed corner, because it is the key to the next shape.
If the corner won't budge
- You are probably on one of the six corners that do not open. Turn the cube and try another.
- Pull gently. The magnets are strong, but the right corner releases without force.
- If something folds the wrong way, press it back until it clicks and start again.
Once the Crown feels easy, you are one move away from the Star. The brand's free app also has a video if you want to watch the opening before you try it.
