What does a Shashibo actually do?
Shashibo, short for Shape Shifting Box, is a magnetic puzzle cube invented by sand artist Andreas Hoenigschmid. The classic version has 12 hinged pieces and 36 rare-earth magnets, and folds through itself into 100+ shapes — Crown, Star, Ball and more — revealing one outer and three inner designs as it moves.
How do I open a Shashibo for the first time?
Per the official instructions, a Shashibo opens on only 2 of its 8 corners. Find one and gently pull it open like a pistachio — that gives you the Crown. Open the closed corner of the Crown to reach the Star. To close it again, use the outer pattern as your guide back to the cube.
Is Shashibo safe for kids?
It is rated for ages 8 and up. It contains magnets and small parts, so it is not for children under 3, and the official instructions advise people with pacemakers not to play with it. Magnets can also affect electronic devices. There are no batteries or screens in the cubes.
