Two Shashibos, one build: the Star with a Ball core

Shashibos are made to connect through their outer magnets. This is the classic two-cube build: a Ball sitting in the hexagonal heart of a Star.

Several Shashibo cubes connected into a larger structure

Collect & connect is part of how the brand thinks about Shashibo. One cube is a puzzle; two cubes are a building set. And the best part about this build is that every move in it comes straight from the official first-shapes sheet.

You will need

  • Two Shashibo cubes (mixing designs looks great).
  • A flat table, so the Star can lie still while you work.

Cube one: the Star

  1. Find one of the two opening corners and pull it open gently, like a pistachio. That is the Crown.
  2. Open the Crown's closed corner. The ring spreads into a six-pointed Star with a hexagonal hole in the middle.
  3. Set the Star flat on the table.

Cube two: the Ball

  1. Make a Crown, then a Star, exactly as above.
  2. Fold the corners of this second Star toward the inside.
  3. Connect the corners together until the magnets click. That is the Ball.

Put them together

Lower the Ball into the hexagonal hole of the first Star. The outer magnets on both pieces do the joining. What you get is a star with a cube-like core — the Ball sits in the center like a jewel in a setting.

Make it yours

Two different designs make this build pop: a calm outer pattern on the Star and a loud one on the Ball, or the other way round. Turn the Ball in its socket to change which faces show. If the Ball will not seat, check that the Star is fully flat with its magnets clicked, then try again gently.

Star with a Ball Core: quick answers

What shapes can you make with 2 Shashibo cubes?

A favorite is the Star with a Ball core: one cube folded into a Star, the second folded into a Ball and set into the Star's hexagonal hole. Two Stars can also connect into a bigger star sculpture.

Do Shashibo cubes stick together?

Yes. All Shashibo forms connect through their outer magnets, which is what makes multi-cube builds possible.

Do both cubes need to be the same design?

No. Mixing designs is half the fun and makes the Ball stand out against the Star.
